What is Chiropractic?
A Natural (Holistic) Approach to Healing
Chiropractic is a clinical science based on the laws of physiology that state that ALL living things have an internal mechanism that keeps their system healthy. The medical community refers to this as Homeostasis. Chiropractors call it our Innate (inborn) Intelligence.
You know that your body is controlled by your brain, but the spinal cord and vast network of nerves that carry its messages are just as important. When this system is not functioning at its peak, your body’s overall performance suffers. The Nervous System controls and coordinates ALL functions in the body. When there is interference to this system (subluxation), your body cannot function to it's optimal level. Only about 10% of all your nerves can sense pain or sensation of any type. Therefore, you should not (cannot) base your health on how you feel. Health should be based on how your body functions. Specific Chiropractic Adjustments help correct subluxations to remove the nerve interference and keep your system functioning at it's absolute best.
In the chiropractic world, we don’t use drugs to treat our patients. While they may be necessary for a variety of conditions, they do not "fix" the problem. Chiropractic is concerned with the "WHY"... not just naming your condition. Of course, you can have illness, pain and disease for many reasons and our training helps identify those that are in need of other types of care if a chiropractic issue is not discovered.
While it's often perceived that the chiropractor solely treats back and neck pain, this is a small piece of what the profession is capable of handling. Chiropractors not only addresses soft and hard tissue problems such as sciatica and joint pain, but are largely called on to deal with many different health issues. Some of these issues include fibromyalgia, migraine headaches, scoliosis, vertigo, tinnitus and carpal tunnel syndrome among many more. We do NOT however, treat or cure ANYTHING. We treat people and attempt to get your body to function as optimally as possible in order to keep you as healthy as possible.
We also will discuss exercises, nutrition, sleep habits, posture and many other strategies to aid in your healing and overall wellness.
